About Dr. Walied Eldomiaty
Dr. Walied Eldomiaty is a periodontist at Aloha Dental Specialty Center in Beaverton. His work centers on the gums and the bone that hold the teeth in place — treating gum disease, repairing gum recession, rebuilding bone that has been lost, and placing dental implants.
He earned his dental degree from Misr University for Science and Technology in 2004 and completed a one-year general practice residency at Cairo University the following year. After several years in private practice, he returned to the United States to continue his training at the University of Kentucky.
At Kentucky he completed the International Periodontology and Implantology fellowship and worked as a research assistant in the College of Dentistry. In 2019 he entered the university’s periodontics residency, which he completed in June 2022.

Clinical Philosophy: Biology-Driven Periodontal Regeneration
Dr. Eldomiaty's approach to periodontal therapy is grounded in biological conservation: saving the natural dentition whenever physiologically feasible, and rebuilding lost supporting structures using evidence-based regenerative protocols. Rather than viewing teeth with deep pockets as immediate candidates for extraction, Dr. Eldomiaty utilizes modern micro-surgical and laser modalities to reverse bone loss, restore clinical attachment, and re-establish a healthy oral microbiome.

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory condition driven by dysbiotic subgingival biofilms. Left unchecked, the host inflammatory response destroys the alveolar bone and periodontal ligament (PDL) fibers anchoring teeth to the jaws. Dr. Eldomiaty combines thorough mechanical debridement with targeted biostimulation and growth factors to trigger the body's intrinsic healing cascade.
Advanced Periodontal & Surgical Treatments
1. LANAP® Laser Gum Surgery (PerioLase MVP-7)
Dr. Eldomiaty is trained and certified in the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP), the only FDA-cleared surgical protocol clinically and histologically proven to induce true periodontal regeneration. Using the specialized PerioLase MVP-7 Nd:YAG pulsed laser at a 1064 nanometer wavelength, Dr. Eldomiaty selectively targets dark-pigmented periodontopathogens (such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and Tannerella forsythia) and diseased pocket epithelium while leaving healthy connective tissue completely intact.
The laser creates a stable, thermal fibrin clot at the gingival margin, forming a hermetic biological seal that prevents downward epithelial migration. This allows undifferentiated mesenchymal stem cells from the periodontal ligament to regenerate new alveolar bone, cementum, and Sharpey's fibers around natural teeth. Patients experience minimal discomfort, zero scalpel incisions, no sutures, and significantly reduced postoperative gum recession compared to traditional resective osseous surgery.
2. LAPIP® Protocol for Peri-Implantitis & Implant Rescue
When dental implants placed elsewhere develop bacterial infection, bone loss, or bleeding on probing, Dr. Eldomiaty utilizes the LAPIP (Laser Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure). The Nd:YAG laser energy decontaminates the microscopic threads of the titanium implant without generating destructive thermal heat in surrounding bone or altering the titanium surface oxide layer. By eliminating toxic endotoxins and promoting re-osseointegration, LAPIP can salvage implants that would otherwise require surgical explantation.
3. Soft Tissue Grafting & Recession Coverage
Gingival recession exposes vulnerable root surfaces, leading to severe thermal sensitivity, cervical root decay, and compromised smile aesthetics. Dr. Eldomiaty utilizes minimally invasive tunneling techniques, the Pinhole Surgical Technique, and micro-surgical connective tissue grafting to restore thick, keratinized attached gingiva. Where appropriate, he utilizes acellular dermal matrix allografts, eliminating the need to harvest tissue from the patient's palate for a completely comfortable recovery.
4. Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) & PRF Biologics
To prepare patients for stable dental implant placement or to rebuild alveolar ridge volume lost to extractions, Dr. Eldomiaty performs Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR). He frequently incorporates Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF), an autologous biomaterial concentrated from a small sample of the patient's own blood. Spun in a specialized centrifuge, PRF releases sustained physiological concentrations of key growth factors—including VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor), and TGF-beta—accelerating capillary neo-angiogenesis and mature bone formation.
5. Sinus Floor Elevations (Sinus Lifts)
When teeth in the upper posterior jaw have been missing, the maxillary sinus pneumatizes (expands downward) while alveolar bone resorbs. Dr. Eldomiaty performs both lateral window sinus augmentations and crestal osteotome sinus elevations to safely raise the Schneiderian membrane and place osteoconductive bone graft matrices, creating sturdy osseous foundations for dental implants.
6. IV Moderate Sedation
To ensure that comprehensive periodontal surgeries and complex bone grafting procedures are completely stress-free, Dr. Eldomiaty offers hospital-grade IV moderate sedation in our monitored surgical suites. Patients relax in a peaceful twilight state with continuous capnography telemetry, experiencing no anxiety and having little to no memory of the surgical appointment.
Research & Scientific Publications
During his fellowship and residency at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, Dr. Eldomiaty contributed to academic periodontal literature, investigating the biology of peri-implant tissues and implant osseointegration. He co-authored two peer-reviewed review articles published in the prestigious Dental Clinics of North America in 2019:
-
“Does Peri-Implant Mucosa Have a Prognostic Value?”
Dental Clinics of North America, 2019 Jul;63(3):567–580. (PMID: 31097145). Investigating the critical biomechanical and protective role of keratinized peri-implant soft tissue in preventing long-term bacterial bone resorption and implant failure. -

Frequently Asked Questions with Dr. Eldomiaty
While regular dentists manage initial cleanings and early gingivitis, a periodontist is a dental specialist who has completed three additional years of post-doctoral hospital and university surgical residency focusing exclusively on the gums, alveolar bone, and dental implants. You should consult Dr. Eldomiaty if you have periodontal pockets measuring 5mm or deeper, persistent bleeding gums, loose or shifting teeth, significant gum recession, or if you need bone grafting, sinus lifts, or dental implants.
Because LANAP uses targeted pulsed laser light rather than scalpels and sutures, postoperative discomfort is minimal. Most patients manage any mild soreness with over-the-counter ibuprofen or acetaminophen for 24 to 48 hours and return to work and daily activities the very next day. You will follow a soft-food diet for a few days to protect the healing fibrin clots around the teeth.
Yes! True histological regeneration—where new bone, new cementum, and new periodontal ligament fibers form on previously diseased root surfaces—has been rigorously proven in clinical studies using the PerioLase MVP-7 LANAP protocol, as well as Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) using PRF and bone graft matrices. Dr. Eldomiaty evaluates your 3D CBCT scans to determine the precise regenerative potential of your bone defects.
Periodontal disease is not just an oral health issue; it is a systemic chronic inflammatory condition. Periodontal bacteria and inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-alpha) enter the bloodstream through ulcerated pocket tissue, contributing to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, elevated risks of stroke, poor glycemic control in type 2 diabetes, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Managing periodontal health under Dr. Eldomiaty protects your overall systemic wellness.
